Job Summary
The Material Control Specialist is responsible for the accurate handling, tracking, and control of materials throughout the facility. This includes executing cycle counts, pulling and kitting materials for production, analyzing material usage, and optimizing inventory levels. The role also involves the safe transportation of large and heavy materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and rigging equipment. Candidates must be comfortable working with both data and equipment in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform regular cycle counts and support full inventory audits; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Pull and kit materials based on production work orders, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Issue materials to work order when pulled.
- Use ERP/MRP systems to track inventory movement, stock levels, and transaction history.
- Transport large and heavy materials safely throughout the facility using forklifts, pallet jacks, and rigging equipment.
- Receive and inspect incoming shipments; verify contents against packing slips and purchase orders.
- Ensure materials are stored safely and efficiently in designated locations.
- Analyze material usage trends to support planning, purchasing, and production.
- Assign and maintain ABC classifications and recommend adjustments based on usage and value.
- Establish and review min/max inventory levels to ensure optimal stock availability and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve material availability issues and improve material flow.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment, adhering to safety protocols.
- Operate material handling equipment in accordance with company and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Support process improvements related to inventory accuracy, storage optimization, and warehouse layout.
- Submit purchase requests for materials and supplies to support production jobs and maintain inventory levels.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training in supply chain/logistics is a plus.
- 2+ years of experience in warehouse, inventory control, or material handling roles.
- Experience with forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, hoists, or rigging equipment is required.
- Forklift certification (or ability to obtain certification) is required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP) for inventory tracking, reporting and analysis.
- Working knowledge of inventory control practices, including ABC analysis and min/max level planning.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work with highly collaborative team.
- Ability to problem solve quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to proactively collect, manage and transfer knowledge.
- Ability to seek different and novel ways to create efficiencies when working on problems, challenges and issues.
- Prioritizes and ensures safety of oneself and others.
Physical Demands
- Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
- Moving objects up to 100 pounds with a cart, dolly, or hand truck
- Ascending or descending ladders and stairs up to 12’ tall, as well as scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts and the like
- Working from heights >4 feet with fall protection to rig loads for transport or movement with crane equipment
- Ability to use hand tools
- Ability to see, hear, and smell differing conditions to sense or respond to hazards or alarms in the work environment

Safety and PPE
