Job Overview

The Manufacturing Technicians’ primary role is to support and maintain the day-to-day functioning of the production lines and work with the Advanced Manufacturing Engineers on continuous improvement activities and any new projects. The role is based at our site in Gateshead and reports into the Manufacturing Engineering Manager.

Key Responsibilities

In this role the Manufacturing Technician will be responsible for the following:

  • Create work instructions for production and maintenance activities
  • Support with implementation of new tooling and equipment
  • Comply with all relevant HSE legislation, local policies, and procedures
  • Support with training of operators
  • Perform appropriate duties as assigned by management
  • Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment to minimize downtime
  • Conduct routine calibration of tools and machinery to ensure accuracy
  • Maintain detailed logs of maintenance activities and equipment performance
  • Support equipment audits and ensure compliance with operational standards
  • Respond to breakdowns and carry out root cause analysis to prevent recurrence

The Requirements

We’re looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

  • Established experience in equipment maintenance within a manufacturing, industrial, or facilities environment.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience operating and maintaining automated machinery, CNC equipment, or assembly lines.
  • Exposure to quality control systems and ISO standards (e.g., ISO 9001).
  • Prior involvement in technical troubleshooting, process optimisation, or equipment calibration.
  • Proven experience with preventive and reactive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, or hydraulic systems.
  • Experience in fault finding and root cause analysis.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to document maintenance activities and generate reports.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with PUWER, LOLER, and other H&S regulations.
  • Liaise with production and engineering teams to prioritise maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workspaces to high standards

Minimum of Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Engineering Maintenance (EAL or City & Guilds) is required. Or, successful completion of a Level 3 Apprenticeship in:

  • Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician
  • Engineering Maintenance Technician

Relevant experience could also be considered.

Bonus Points

It would also be great (but not essential) if in addition to the above you also had:

  • Experience of working in regulated industries (e.g., aerospace, automotive, pharmaceuticals).
